Too Good to Be True (As Featured in The Boston Globe)

A story in Wednesday's Boston Globe, "A year after revamp, auto insurance rates in flux," proves once again that if something sounds too good to be true, it usually is. It also proves the important role that insurance agents have in today's market to educate their clients so that they can make informed decisions as to who their auto insurance carrier should be. By conveying all the facts as to how auto insurance rates are established in Massachusetts, we think today's artible proves, yet again, why Arbella continues to truly be a consumer's best choice.

The Globe story that unbeknownst to many consumers, under the new deregulated insurance system insurers can actually raise average auto rates by up to 10% each year. In fact, two of the most aggressive direct writers from the first year of deregulation are already taking price increases. That would certainly come as a confusing and unwelcome surprise to many consumers, especially those who attempt to obtain price quotes over an 800 number or on the internet thinking they are getting a price cut when it is really only from a reduction in coverage or higher deductibles.

Unlike the new direct writing companies that are taking rate increases, Arbella is again lowering its average rates by 2%, and when combined with out average rate cut of -8.7% in 2008, Arbella insured could see an average cumulative price decrease of -10.5% for the two year period of 2008 and 2009. Additional descounts may be available when commercial auto and home are combined.

Arbella Insurance is just one of the many competitive companies we represent here at Paul T Murphy Insurance.
